Since my latest blog post, I spoke about how we rescued another fur-baby. Welp, I would like to introduce you all to Mr. Colt Dopey McKenna.

If only y'all could meet him in person, you would then realize why his middle name is Dopey. Yes, yes I did people...I gave my fur-baby a middle name. You don't?

I have always said, don't get, adopt, rescue a dog unless you are going to treat them like family. Well, my fur babies are my children.

My first born (rescued) is Benelli Dipstick McKenna, but she is a whole different blog post story.

Ok, back to Colt!

We rescued Colt from a park here in Richmond, VA.

I was working when I came across Colt and his then owner. The owner couldn't take care of Colt and wanted to give him away so he could have a better life. When my husband and I first saw Colt, we knew we could leave him, we just had to take him. Colt (different name at the time) was emaciated. He had fleas and we didn't know if he was going to make it.

Here is some pictures of him on the day we took him home.

Colt weighed 23 lbs at approximately 5 months old. He was severely underweight. He was weak; he could walk more than 10 minutes outside before his body would shake and he would sit with his legs, frog-legged out backwards because his muscles were too weak to support him. Till this day, he still sits with one leg backwards ( I think he's double-jointed). He had fleas, so the first day we took him home and I gave him a bath he sat down, patient, loving the scrubbing while I got all the fleas out.

We had to wait a week for our vet to be available. We knew we had to get him all his shots and get him healthy. At this point, we were sure if we were going to keep him or not. We had to see how he responded with Benelli (my angel baby). She is my first born fur-baby, so she means the world to me, and I knew if Colt and her didn't get along then we would have to give him up.

When we brought colt into the vet's office, they could not stop thanking us for rescuing him. The day before we took Colt to the vet, he was profusely vomiting everywhere. We didn't think he was going to make it, BUT he was still drinking water. Which we knew was a good sign.

The vet took x-rays, gave Colt his shots and more. The stated that his organs looked in good shape, as well as his heart. This was AMAZING news! We stated that for now we would nurse him back to healthy and see how he did with Benelli.

We had to keep them apart for a week, as one would do with a new pup in the household.

All in all, Colt took an immediate comfort to our Nellie girl. He wouldn't go anywhere without her. He wouldn't go outside to go potty without her; he constantly had to touch her, cuddles and all!

He would follow anything she did, LITERALLY; down to sniffing the same spot she would.

Of course there have been challenges, but nothing we couldn't handle. With that said, we decided to keep the dopey pup. He is something else, but he's part of our family now.

Here he is, approximately nine months old and getting bigger than his sister. You'd think they were literally related.

I'll try to keep ya'll updated, but for now he is solid muscle and a little meathead.

Till next time!
